Samson

After a long wait, I can finally introduce my latest portrait – Samson.

Samson is a magnificent addition to the family and I had great pleasure drawing him as I am a true horse lover. My two terriers Poppy and Toby, however, weren’t interested in the slightest. They said he would be no fun to chase, but they would heartily approve of the aroma of his…well… erm… manure. They really are quite outrageous at times.

During the artistic process I found Samson lovely to draw, especially with the way the light played on his black coat. His mane was the trickiest bit, but I do like the way the backround came out with just a suggestion of shapes. Quite impressionistic in contrast to the detail of Samson himself. Overall I think it all worked rather well.

Do let me know what you think!

Let me introduce you to my latest pet portrait – Tomsk.

I have a lovely friend whose birthday is coming up in May, so I decided to draw her a portrait of a cat (and in the process add another portrait to my portfolio). Hence, the latest addition to the Blackwell studio – Tomsk.

Tomsk is a very handsome boy – even my Border Terriers approve. They told me to bring him round so that they could introduce themselves, but I didn’t trust the crafty smirks on their faces. We left it at that.

During the artistic process I found Tomsk quite tricky to draw, with all that fur and with him being a white moggy. I certainly learnt a few tricks along the way though, and I am hoping that my friend will like him too. Do let me know what you think!
